Not long after releasing “Siapa Suruh Jatuh Cinta?” in early February, Sheryl Sheinafia continues her musical journey with her latest single titled “Sendiri.” Instead of talking about romance, this time Sheryl brings a more reflective theme, about how someone faces the thoughts inside their own mind.
Starting from a heartfelt conversation with Rahmania Astrini, Sheryl Sheinafia managed to pour out everything that had been filling her mind. Sometimes, these thoughts feel unique and different, but at the same time, they can make it difficult for others to understand her. From there, misunderstandings arise, along with plans that do not go as expected. In the end, every individual still has to make peace with and fix their own thoughts, because whatever the outcome is, we are the ones who have to live through it.
Musically, “Sendiri” is built with a simpler and more contemplative approach. Armed once again with acoustic guitar, the arrangement feels clean and spacious, allowing Sheryl’s vocals to become the emotional center of the song. At its climax, “Sendiri” ends beautifully with an impressive acapella section, as if Sheryl is giving affirmation to her listeners to embrace all the thoughts in their heads, alone, yet stronger.
In the creative process, Sheryl collaborated with Rahmania Astrini in songwriting and worked together with Refo Alpha, better known as Refo & Fauna, as the producer. This collaboration created a musical color that stays true to Sheryl’s character while feeling more contemplative and personal.
Refo brings a touch of modern pop that develops gradually without feeling overly crowded. Sheryl’s vocals in this song feel more honest and natural, with a relaxed singing style that sounds like she is talking to herself. This makes “Sendiri” feel close and relatable, especially for anyone who often overthinks and is trying to understand the contents of their own mind.
