Bingkai Karya – After more than two decades in the music industry and 18 years with a record label, KOTAK officially begins a new chapter as an independent band with the release of its latest single, “YOLO (You Only Live Once)”. The rock anthem reflects the band’s decision to step beyond its comfort zone while encouraging listeners to embrace new experiences, overcome fear, and take control of their own lives.
For KOTAK, becoming an independent band represents more than a change in its working system. It is a bold decision to trust its musical instincts once again and create without creative limitations. That spirit became the foundation of “YOLO”, a song inspired by real experiences of starting over, taking risks, and having the courage to leave familiar ground behind.
At the heart of the song is a message about personal growth without unnecessary pressure. Through its lyrics, “YOLO” encourages listeners to keep moving forward and enjoy the process of becoming a better version of themselves. Rather than waiting endlessly for the perfect moment, KOTAK reminds audiences that life is too valuable to be spent waiting for the right time to begin.
Musically, “YOLO” returns to the rock anthem character that has long defined KOTAK, combining powerful guitar riffs, an easily singable chorus, and an energetic sound designed to ignite listeners’ enthusiasm. Its memorable hooks, including “I Want To Get It Started,” “Get Up And Dance Now,” and “Watch Yourself Grow Now,” reinforce the song’s uplifting message and invite listeners to embrace their own new beginnings.
The entire production process was handled directly by KOTAK, from the lyrics and arrangement to other creative elements. Working without creative restrictions allowed the band to deliver a record that feels more personal, honest, and representative of the new phase they are entering.
“‘YOLO’ is not just a new song for us, but also a reflection of the major decision we are currently making. Becoming an independent band is a challenging step, but we believe every growth always begins with the courage to move forward,” said KOTAK.
More than a single, “YOLO” serves as KOTAK’s declaration of a new era one built on independence, creative freedom, and the same determination that has fueled the band since the beginning of its journey in Indonesia’s music industry.
