Bingkai Karya – Indie-rock breakout Meg Elsier returns with her new single “meaning of life,” out today via Bright Antenna Records. Built on hazy guitars, delicate vocals, and her unmistakably sharp lyricism, the track captures both the intimacy and edge that define her sound.
“Meaning of life” is about giving depression company,” Meg shares. “It’s being fucking tired, stuck in self-sabotage and procrastination, feeling nothing and living vicariously through other people instead. It’s a pretty goddamn selfish song.”
She continues, “It’s also about ruining normal, sweet moments with nihilistic thoughts, like what happens when I die while I’m trying to find a Bed Bath & Beyond coupon. There’s no reason for it. And if there’s no reason for it, then maybe there’s no reason for me. It’s about the freedom and relief in realizing that maybe it’s not about everything being meaningless, but about how hard it is to find meaning when there’s no reason for it.”
That same sense of weightless detachment carries into the accompanying music video, directed and edited by Jacq Justice and out today. Shot around New York City, it plays like hazy, cinematic snapshots of life’s little moments.
The release follows a whirlwind year for Meg Elsier. She unveiled the expanded edition of her debut album spittake (deluxe), signed with Bright Antenna Records, toured across the US alongside Blondshell and Liz Cooper, moved from Nashville to New York, and made her SXSW debut where she performed at nine different showcases. Most recently, she appeared at Boise, Idaho’s Treefort Music Fest, further cementing her status as an artist on the rise.
Since releasing her debut LP in 2024, she has earned praise from DIY Magazine, DORK, OnesToWatch, and CLASH for her emotionally raw storytelling and distinct sonic identity. Pairing sweet, airy vocals and ethereal melodies with grungy guitars and weighty production, she balances softness with grit in a way that feels entirely her own. Her sharp wit and self-awareness cut through her lyrics, grounding the dreamy haze of her shoegaze-leaning sound.
That vision extends well beyond the music. Meg has built a boldly immersive visual world around her work, with fashion playing a central role in how she tells her story. She styles the majority of her videos, photos, and live shows herself, bringing the same intentionality and edge to every detail.
