Meta launched Meta Immersive Learning Academy (MILA) or Virtual Learning Academy on September 3rd, 2022. This project is an educational program that will facilitate creators in augmented and virtual reality fields at the beginner level and professionals to develop their abilities and capabilities. This academy is run through collaboration with Hacktiv8 and it is a part of the Digital Innovation Network (DIN) series and Digital Economic Working Group (DEWG) at the G20 meeting in Nusa Dua, Bali.
The curriculum at this Virtual Learning Academy included online and face-to-face training, which had been specially designed to support beginner creators improving Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) capabilities to the professional stage. The curriculum in this Virtual Learning Academy will feature local AR creators, who have worked with Meta to suit all of its teaching materials with communities in Indonesia.
The growth of AR creators is very rapid in Asia Pacific including Indonesia. 5 out of 10 top countries of Spark AR creators come from Asia Pacific. Besides that, 35% monthly active Spark AR creators globally are located in Asia Pacific. In order to continue supporting this community and enable creators to have abilities in creating and delivering the required AR interaction experience, the Virtual Learning Academy provided opportunities for AR content creators from various capabilities to study different courses online and training programs, as well as being able to initiate and launch AR interaction experiences using the Spark AR platform owned by Meta.
Noudhy Valdryno, Public Policy Manager for Meta in Indonesia, explained, “In Meta, we believe that the equipment and features that we present today, especially for Spark AR, will be the foundation and the first step for the community to be able to #Menujumetaverse. We are still in the early stages of building the metaverse – how we create a suitable initial framework is as important as the complete design of the metaverse later. Then, it’s important for us to be able to work together and collaborate with new creators, technologists and developers. Learning Academy Virtual will support our community to the next stage to learn various new abilities and be a part of the future that we can create together.”
Through this program, Meta will start rolling out the Spark AR curriculum and provide up to 12 hours of online training via the Blueprint Meta learning platform. This learning also includes various levels of abilities possessed by each creator. The 3 main areas for creators to learn are:
- Quick start: it helps AR creators to have the needed basic skills and create standard effects in Spark AR.
- AR Fundamentals: it’s designed for creative professionals who want to learn the basic principles of creating designs for AR as well as various practical abilities to create AR using Spark AR Studio.
- AR Pro: the next step for AR content creators who are looking for experience in designing a more immersive AR experience using Spark AR. This training will also help mid-level creators to prepare themselves towards a professional certification exam.
After completing Spark AR training, creators who wish to pursue a career in the field of ARs can get certified and validated for their abilities as Spark AR content creators. These young creators can join in AR workshops that are hosted by Hacktiv8, which will start in the 4th quarter of 2022 in order to meet other expert creators and develop their skills further.
To ensure the Virtual Learning Academy can provide a set of abilities for Spark AR creators, Meta consults with Hacktiv8 who owns immersive experience with local creators in Indonesia.
