Michelle Yeoh rocked the world of the film industry, especially for Asian people. Michelle Yeoh has just created new history after winning an Oscar as the Best Actress at the Academy Awards 2023 on Monday, March 13, 2023. This win is not only becoming history for Asian people because Michelle Yeoh is the first Asian to win this event, but also history for Michelle Yeoh herself because this trophy was her first Oscar, and Michelle Yeoh dedicated the award to her mom and all the mothers in the world.
“They are the real superheroes, and without them, none of us will be here tonight,” she said.
Michelle Yeoh advised children, especially those of Asian descent, that they also have the right to have hopes and dreams. Yeoh also advised all women not to care about other people’s slanted remarks, especially comments about productive age. She said the award was proof that age cannot be an obstacle for everyone in pursuing their dreams. This was proven by her winning an Oscar at the age of 60.
At that emotional moment, she said: “For all the little boys and girls who looked like me watching tonight, this is a beacon of hope and possibility. This is proof that dreams dream big, and dreams do come true. And ladies, don’t let anyone tell you you were ever past your prime.”
Michelle Yeoh won this victory thanks to her brilliant role as an exasperated Chinese immigrant laundromat owner struggling to finish her taxes, named Evelyn Wang, the main character in Everything Everywhere All at Once. The movie, which was directed by The Daniels, also won a total of 7 trophies from various categories this year, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Supporting Actor. This movie is also becoming the movie with the greatest number of Oscar wins.
Michelle Yeoh is known as one of the most senior versatile actresses. She has been in the world of acting since 1985 with her first film ‘Yes, Madam’, in which she also performs dangerous scenes in the movie herself. Before playing her role in Everything Everywhere All at Once, she has starred in various films of various genres. Starting from romance/drama movies: Crazy Rich Asian, Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, to the animated film: Avatar, which was also just released recently.
