Bingkai Karya – There is a saying: “No matter how far you go, home will always be the place you miss the most.” For people living far from home, simple things often trigger feelings of longing. The smell of a mother’s cooking, warm family conversations, or the first day of fasting with parents become strong reasons to want to return.
However, not everyone who lives far away can easily go back home. Many factors make it difficult, such as long distances, financial limitations, or a busy schedule. For those living far from their hometowns, accepting this reality is not easy. One person who understands these feelings is Mitty Zasia, an Indonesian singer and songwriter. Since 2014, Mitty has left her hometown in Kotamobagu, North Sulawesi, to pursue her dreams.
“During Ramadan, I always miss having sahur (pre-dawn meal) and breaking the fast with my family. It may seem simple, but I haven’t experienced those moments for years,” said Mitty, who now lives in Yogyakarta.
Besides missing home, Mitty also faces other challenges while living away. She often feels lonely, must solve problems on her own, and cannot easily share her stories with family back home.
“When I lived in Kotamobagu, I was a spoiled child. Even my school friends knew that. But when I think about it now, it’s amazing that someone like me, who was so dependent on others, can survive this far from home. In fact, many of the things I’ve achieved happened while living away,” said Mitty as the singer of “Bukan Seleramu.”
“Untuk Perempuanku Di Cermin”: A Story of Struggle Far from Home
Mitty shares her experiences in a song called “Untuk Perempuanku Di Cermin“, which she performs with Fanny Soegi. This song is the second single from her album “Nanti Malam Ku Pikir Lagi” released in October 2024.
“This song reminds me—and everyone—that we are stronger than we think, even when life feels tough. I want the listeners, especially women, to know that it’s okay to feel tired or cry. What matters is to remember that we have the strength to keep going,” Mitty explained.
To promote the song, Mitty and Fanny also released a lyric video and a live performance on Mitty Zasia’s YouTube channel, which officially premiered on Friday, March 7, 2025.
Interestingly, the live session was recorded at Studio Kuaetnika, located in the Padepokan Seni Bagong Kussudiardja cultural center in Yogyakarta. In addition to Fanny, Mitty collaborated with other musicians, including Ronie Udara, and worked with Bagus Kresnawan and the GAS! team on the visual aspects.
Why Did Mitty Choose Fanny Soegi?
Mitty decided to collaborate with Fanny Soegi after hearing her share personal stories on a podcast with Soleh Solihun. Mitty felt that the lyrics and message of the song would be stronger if performed together with Fanny.
“When I listened to that podcast, I knew this song needed to be sung by both of us. Plus, Fanny, like me, also lives far from home,” Mitty said.
For Fanny, living away from home is not only about sadness. She has found a positive side—meeting kind people who support each other.
“Living far from home can be exciting. You meet people who share the same experiences, and you can support one another. For me, being away from home isn’t as bad as it seems,” Fanny shared.
Fanny also believes that the song carries an important message for women who dare to step out of their comfort zones.
