Bingkai Karya — Twenty-five years after the release of its original version, Yovie & Nuno are bringing back “Kamu Bukan Kekasihku” with a fresh new interpretation. This time, the song features three rising solo artists: Meiska, Prinsa Mandagie, and Aruma. The project offers a completely different perspective by telling the story through the eyes of women, breathing new life into a song that has long held a special place in listeners’ hearts. “This new version of “Kamu Bukan Kekasihku” was born out of our curiosity. We wanted to know what it would sound like if a song that was originally sung by a man were retold from a woman’s point of view. Naturally, the story would feel different,” said Muchamad Ahadiyat, better known as Kang Diat, guitarist of Yovie & Nuno.
The collaboration came together unexpectedly. Initially, each of the three singers was set to work with Yovie & Nuno on separate projects. However, during rehearsals for the band’s 25th anniversary concert, their chemistry as a trio convinced the group to bring them together in a single release. “At first, we planned to collaborate with Meiska, Prinsa, and Aruma individually. But while preparing for Yovie & Nuno’s 25th anniversary concert, we realized how naturally they clicked when performing together. So we decided to give it a try and follow Mas Yovie’s intuition,” explained vocalist Adi Julian.
For Yovie & Nuno, the heart of this project lies in each singer’s unique interpretation. They believe the same song can take on an entirely different meaning when performed by voices with distinct personalities. At the same time, balancing those individual characteristics while maintaining the song’s identity proved to be the biggest challenge.
“The biggest challenge was deciding who would sing which parts and how to divide the harmonies. That was definitely the trickiest part,” Kang Diat shared. Looking ahead, the project may even pave the way for a new mini album. “We’ve actually discussed creating an IP for projects like this under the name ‘JELITA.’ But we’ll see how it develops,” they revealed.
Although the remake will inevitably be compared to the original version, Yovie & Nuno see those comparisons as a positive thing. “Hopefully, comparing the two versions will spark people’s curiosity. Some listeners may feel nostalgic for the original, while others might find themselves relating more to this new version.”
Through this single, Yovie & Nuno hope “Kamu Bukan Kekasihku” will offer a fresh perspective, not only through a female point of view, but also through the lens of a new generation navigating relationships in today’s rapidly evolving world shaped by technology and social media.
“We hope this song brings a new perspective, not only from a woman’s point of view, but perhaps also from a generational one. So much has changed with the advancement of technology and the way we communicate today. In this social media era, we’re all wondering what kind of relationships are truly worth fighting for, and which ones are simply worth remembering, even if they weren’t meant to last,” they concluded.
Yovie & Nuno’s latest single with Meiska, Prinsa Mandagie, and Aruma, a remake of their 2001 hit “Kamu Bukan Kekasihku”, is now available on all major digital streaming platforms.
