Bingkai Karya-Tilly Birds, an alt-pop band from Thailand, is back with their new English single, “Retro-39.” The song was released worldwide on major streaming platforms on October 1, 2024. Drawing inspiration from the late ’90s and early 2000s, the song reflects the band’s growth as artists. Their goal is to win the hearts of multiple generations with a cheerful and laid-back love and life soundtrack.
“Retro-39” is Tilly Birds’ latest effort to reach more international listeners. Over the years, they have performed at various festivals and concerts across Asia, and are always excited to perform where their fans are waiting.
Their previous English-language release, the heavy rock song “White Pills,” became a must-play in their live sets and found its way into listeners’ playlists as far as Latin America earlier this year. “Retro-39” is their second fully English song, and the band worked together on every aspect of it, with a little help from a friend, Pat, who provided the finishing touches.
Third, the band’s vocalist shared that after “White Pills,” they felt they needed something lighter to change things up. Milo (drummer) explained that since they had been playing “White Pills” for two years and were preparing for their next album, it made sense to create something entirely new. “Songs are like people; they age. This song made us realize we’re growing, and we need to create music that reflects our lives right now.”
A Fresh Experience for Listeners
The creation process for “Retro-39” was fun and carefree, just like the joyful energy of the song itself. By the fifth demo, the song was ready, and Billy (guitarist) recalls, “That’s when we knew, this is Retro-39.” Everything fell into place just before they recorded Third’s vocals. “It gave me strength,” Third said.
“Retro-39” is designed to be a sentimental compilation and a fresh experience for listeners, and the band has high hopes for the impact it will have. “This might be the brightest song we’ve ever made, and we can’t wait for everyone to hear it. We’re using it as the hook, the bait,” Billy said.
