Dieng winter has arrived. The phenomenon of bun upas or ice dew has again covered the Dieng plateau in the morning. Quoted by Tribunjogja.com from the TribunJateng page, this dew has often occurred several times in Dieng since this July. Hasbiantoro, a resident of Dieng Wetan, said this month has been freezing several times. The dew usually appears on July-August in the dry season
He added, on Thursday morning, dew had started to appear on the piles of trash and leaves. The temperature in Dieng at that time reached minus 2-3 degrees Celsius. In 2023, the dew phenomenon will not only occur in July-August.

The first frost phenomenon in 2023 appeared in the Dieng plateau area, Banjarnegara Regency on Monday 13 March 2023 morning. According to the Head of the Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) for Dieng Tourism Management Sri Utami, the phenomenon of ice dew this year is slightly different from previous years.
Meanwhile, Didi Satiadi, a researcher at the National Research and Innovation Agency’s (BRIN) Center for Climate and Atmospheric Research, stated that it is an ice dew or frost occurrence, which is a thin film of ice on a solid surface formed by water vapor in an above-freezing atmosphere.
Didi noted that this occurrence frequently occurs during cold weather at night or early in the morning when the temperature is particularly low. He also stated that while the tropical country of Indonesia has a mild climate in general, frost can exist in the highlands under certain meteorological conditions. Because air pressure decreases with altitude, the temperature in the highlands is usually lower than in the lowlands.
Furthermore, a bright sky can promote the production of ice dew due to excellent radiative cooling. It is the process through which heat is lost from the surface due to thermal radiation. The absence of clouds is most common during the dry season of June-July-August, when the cold and dry Australian monsoon reduces clouds over Indonesia.
In addition to that, when the night is relatively calm, the mixing temperature process on the earth’s surface is minimal, allowing frigid temperatures to settle and form ice dew. Other weather elements that contribute to frost development on the Dieng plateau include the presence of sufficient water vapor near the surface and a surface temperature that is lower than the dewpoint temperature.
