Bingkai Karya-Out of the darkness something bright is always born, as illustrated on Barasuara’s third album. “Jalaran Sadrah,” which Barasuara self-released on June 21, 2024, via Hu Shah Records consists of nine tracks, three of which—”Terbuang dalam Waktu,” “Merayakan Fana,” and “Fatalis”—have already been made available as singles.
“Jalaran Sadrah means because of surrender. Iga Massardi, the guitarist and vocalist, states, “This album happened, was written, and completed because of surrender.” “We give up in powerlessness. In hopelessness, in the vulnerability of our human position, accepting fate and His will in the end.”
The process of making Jalaran Sadrah began in January 2021. With no manager or record company, the six members of Barasuara gathered for a week at a villa in Puncak, Bogor. They consolidated as a band and write new songs from scratch. From then on, the composition, arranging, and recording process continued in several Jakartan studios. Including the Barasuara office and the residences of Iga, Marco, Gerald, and TJ. These activities continued on a regular basis until early 2024.
The Fire is Still Burning
All things considered, “Jalaran Sadrah” is a symbol. Despite several hardships, the fire of Barasuara is still burning after 12 years. “This album is fun, loose and satisfying, despite the discomfort caused by the dizzying pandemic situation at that time,” stated TJ. Asteriska continued, “This album is a form of mutual acceptance, support and defense, and proof that Barasuara can still stand strong despite the storms.”
The dark times experienced by Barasuara individually and collectively over the past few years, turns out into light in the form of “Jalaran Sadrah.” Which can now be enjoyed by their fans. “Jalaran Sadrah is our offering to our listeners,” says Iga. “Without any intention of patronizing, we leave this album entirely for them to enjoy and interpret in their own way.”
