Bingkai Karya – After spending years moving from one band to another since a young age, singer-songwriter Tsaqib from Bandung now introduces himself as a solo artist. Having started his musical journey in elementary school, this is not his first time sharing music with the public. Alongside his brother and sister as his music partners, Tsaqib has independently released several singles in Bandung. In recent years, he also formed the indie rock group Dorkie with Kevin Rinaldi, where he served as lead vocalist and songwriter.
There are some big differences between writing songs as a band vocalist and as Tsaqib, he shared. “Besides the language difference (Dorkie’s songs are in English), I can be more honest and personal when writing as Tsaqib. Although both are based on my own experiences, before I could only write on the surface—now I can dive deeper into my stories.”
His debut single “Mau Tak Mau,” which comes from a personal story, is about someone who often gives in for the sake of their partner. “It was a very frustrating situation. I loved this person so much, but I felt unappreciated—and in the end, I was always the one who had to give in. Still, I kept trying, hoping they might change,” Tsaqib explained.
Through his solo work, Tsaqib highlights his emotional sensitivity as both a man and an artist. In writing his songs, he always tries to end each story with a meaningful message or conclusion. “The idea is that my listeners and I can learn something from my stories,” he said.
he concluded “It’s okay to feel sad, but I don’t want to stay in sadness for too long. For example, in this song, I sing ‘I surrender to God’ in the bridge, because if this person isn’t meant to be with me, that’s okay—as long as I’ve done my best.”
With simple but effective acoustic guitar melodies and Tsaqib’s soft voice under the vocal direction of Kamga, the composition of “Mau Tak Mau” remained mostly the same from its demo version to the final version produced by Trinity Optima Production. “Not all of my future songs will sound like this, arrangement-wise. But in terms of lyrics and songwriting, I will stay true to my values: honest, but not overly sorrowful,” he concluded.
“Mau Tak Mau,” Tsaqib’s debut single under Trinity Optima Production, is available on all digital music platforms starting April 16, 2025. The official music video will premiere on April 18, 2025 on Trinity Optima Production’s YouTube channel.
