Wasia Project Releases Latest EP “Isotope” and Short Movie  CQ Ones To Watch

Wasia Project

BingkaiKarya– Wasia Project, consisting of siblings Will Gao and Olivia Hardy, has released their second EP, “Isotope,” via AWAL Recordings. The duo has combined classical training with jazz-pop for five years, accumulating tens of millions of streams and touring the US and Europe.

They are experimenting with genre-bending pop and audio-visual concepts in a 20-minute cinematic short film. “Isotope” follows the powerful baroque-pop single “Is This What Love Is?” and the haunting existential ballad “Takes Me Back Home”. The EP balances nostalgia with uncertainty, digesting love, concern, bewilderment, and hope in one voice.

About the Shortfilm

Charlie Drinkwater, a creative filmmaker, and Charles Gall used Daidō Moriyama, Paris Texas, and Wong Kar-Wei photography to create the short film “Isotope,” which shows Olivia and Will as a single figure navigating complex scenarios.

In 2019, Wasia Project used their classical expertise and British-Asian heritage to create a global pop style that blends genres and musical traditions. Olivia’s vocals are similar to those of Joni Mitchell and Rickie Lee Jones, and the band draws inspiration from Mitski, Weyes Blood, and Billie Eilish for their intricate and poignant lyrics.

The band has received press and radio coverage, including NME cover and print pieces in British Vogue, Rolling Stone UK, and others. In 2024, Amazon Music and British GQ named them Ones To Watch.
