Willy Winarko released his version of KOTAK’s one of hit songs called “Beraksi” under Warner Music Indonesia. He added his self-made rap verse with his satire style of rap. The added rap verse has deep meaning regarding those people who look down on other people.
“Through the rap lyrics I added, I want to express my disgust to people who look down on other people or those who talk too much but they don’t show their action,” Willy explained the deeper meaning about the lyrics he added.
Willy’s version of “Beraksi” is made with rap beats, Willy’s characteristics of rap, and more stomping percussion tempo. KOTAK’s guitarist, Cella, also participated on the making of the song while Muhammad Ibrahim (Wevvs) and Kardo Arghost helped the production of the song.
Willy and his production team also gave the listeners a surprise with Chua (KOTAK’s bassist) appearance in several verses of the song with a rap style. Also, Tantri’s (KOTAK’s vocalist) distinctive screaming voice is still in reff part of the song to keep the original version’s song characteristic icon.
Willy admitted that he faced several challenges while trying to make his own version of “Beraksi”. “There were 2 challenges I faced in the making of the song. The first is I want to target people from young generations to listen to the new genre of “Beraksi” but with KOTAK’s iconic characteristics. So what I did to face it was to make a sample of the song with modern style but tried to keep the iconic characteristics of KOTAK. The second challenge is that the song is very iconic so I cannot ruin the song in my version,” Willy said.
