Bingkai karya – Visionary American trio Son Lux consisting of Ryan Lott, Rafiq Bhatia, and Ian Chang, return today with their brand new single “Endlessly.” Alongside the release, they also announced their ninth studio album, ‘Out Into’ arriving September 18 via This Is Meru/City Slang. Sonically unique, “Endlessly” serves as the lead single and offers a glimpse into what may be their most rhythmically vibrant and lyrically urgent album to date.
For two decades, Son Lux have been known for their cinematic soundscapes. However, ‘Out Into’ marks a moment where the band embraces something different. The new album honors the sparks of early creativity by treating the very first voice memo of a song as its most sacred form. The result is a collection of dynamic, detailed, and deeply meaningful songs born from mesmerizing moments of collective improvisation.
Supported by world-renowned marching band The Bluecoats, “Endlessly” was written for moments of self-celebration. The song’s chorus serves as a reminder that we can become whoever we want to be. “The songs on this album are about losing and finding yourself,” says Ryan Lott. “How we lose ourselves in relationships, in work, in our children, and in our pursuit and desires. So how do we find ourselves again? How do we find one another?”
“We are constantly changing as we continue learning about ourselves. That’s part of the meaning behind ‘Out Into’. We step out of something and transform into something else. Every moment is simultaneously an exit and an entrance.” -Ryan Lott, Son Lux.
After hearing Lott’s lyrics in the studio, Rafiq Bhatia felt multiple layers of reality beginning to merge together. The themes of loss and rediscovery resonated deeply with the way Son Lux creates music itself. “Ryan has a way of inviting people into profound human experiences and relationships, and that becomes our focus. For us, making music is one example of that. The lyrics perfectly reflected how these songs were created. There’s an intimacy in the way we navigate the terms and conditions of modern life.”
Throughout the track, the intensity of Lott’s verses intertwines with the rhythm section crafted by Chang and Bhatia, who also performs bass on several songs. “We’re all huge hip-hop fans, especially boom-bap,” says Chang. “Music that feels structured but never rigid. We love artists like J Dilla and Madlib that flow naturally. We’ve always been drawn to humanity in those sounds. With AI becoming increasingly common in the music industry, we’re interested in creating work where listeners can still hear and feel the touch of human hands.”
The new creative approach applied to this album is expected to surprise longtime Son Lux listeners, as it differs greatly from how they crafted previous projects. Son Lux previously earned two Oscar nominations and two BAFTA nominations for Best Original Song and Best Original Score for Everything Everywhere All at Once from A24, which won Best Picture. The soundtrack also featured David Byrne, Mitski, and André 3000. Their film scoring work can also be heard in Thunderbolts* from Marvel Studios and Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother from Amazon MGM Studios, which is set for release soon.
In addition, their single “Easy” has been sampled by Halsey on the Gold-certified track “Hold Me Down,” by G-Eazy on “Eazy,” and by Fall Out Boy on “Fourth of July.” They also collaborated with Lorde on a new version of “Easy” released in 2020. Their music has additionally been performed and used by The Royal Ballet, Kronos Quartet, and BBC Concert Orchestra.
Although the vast scope of their work has expanded Son Lux’s vision far beyond cinema screens, Lott, Bhatia, and Chang also felt inspired to return to something more immediate and direct. ‘Out Into’ captures Son Lux existing in a paradoxical space expansive yet intimate, spontaneous yet refined, experimental yet pop-oriented exactly as heard in “Endlessly.”
‘Out Into’ feels like Son Lux’s most hands-on album to date. Beginning this July, the band will embark on a global tour spanning cities across 2026 and 2027, including multiple stops throughout Asia.
