New Baki Manga Series Releases on August 24

The 35th issue of Akita Shoten’s Weekly Shonen Champion magazine for this year announced on Thursday that Keisuke Itagaki will begin a new series for his Baki manga in the 39th issue of the magazine on August 24. Itagaki’s new Baki-Dou manga (seen right) debuted in Weekly Shonen Champion in October 2018 and ran until June 15.

From 1991 until 1999, Itagaki’s original Baki The Grappler martial arts manga ran in Weekly Shonen Champion magazine for 42 volumes. The manga has sold over 63 million copies worldwide. From 1999 through 2005, the Baki sequel manga was published in 31 volumes. The manga is published in English by Media Do. Itagaki followed Baki by publishing the 37-volume Hanma Baki manga in Weekly Shonen Champion from 2005 to 2012. The first Baki-Dou manga, the franchise’s fourth overall, debuted in Weekly Shonen Champion in March 2014 and ended in April 2018 with 22 volumes.

The first season of Itagaki’s Baki (New Grappler Baki: In Search of Our Strongest Hero) anime debuted on Netflix in Japan in June 2018, and it ran for 26 episodes until December 2018. Outside of Japan, Netflix released the first 13 episodes in December 2018, followed by the second half of the first season in March 2019.

The Baki: Dai Raitaisai-hen anime then premiered globally on Netflix in June 2020, with all episodes available at once. Baki Hanma is a sequel to the Baki: Dai Raitaisai-hen series and the third Baki series on Netflix. The anime premiered on Netflix worldwide in September 2021, with all 12 episodes available. The “Tale of Pickle & The Pickle War Saga” tale kicked off the second season of Baki Hanma on Netflix worldwide on Wednesday. The story “The Father VS Son Saga” of the anime will then premiere on August 24.
