Chinese Tech Giants Collab To Makes OLED with “Under Display” Selfie Camera

Three giant tech companies from China, namely Huawei, ZTE, and BOE, are rumored to be collaborating to make a flexible or folding OLED screen with an “under display” selfie camera. In the GSM Arena report, Tuesday, the news was carried by a trusted technology leakster Digital Chat Station by uploading it on the Weibo application.

The first smartphone to potentially use the screen technology is the Huawei Mate X4 as the latest generation of Huawei’s foldable smartphone line. The truth is this camera screen tech is not a new thing because it has previously been presented by their competitor, Samsung through the Galaxy Z Fold4, however the screen is considered not optimal.

Reflecting on these findings, the three giant tech companies from China finally developed a screen with similar technology but with better end results. The OLED screen, codenamed “Q8” is said to have solved the camera quality problem thanks to ZTE’s expertise in the field and BOE’s experience in producing screens.

Especially ZTE with its smartphones from the Axon series, which in recent years pioneered under-display camera technology and has continued to deliver significant improvements over the past few generations. The newly developed display is known to have a resolution of 2480 x 1116px and uses 1,440Hz high frequency PWM dimming.
