Bingkai Karya – A work that has been around for more than two decades now presents itself with a new color. Renowned musician and guitarist Tohpati has teamed up with Mario G. Klau to re-perform “Jejak Langkah yang Kau Tinggal”, a song written by Tohpati and Erros Chandra, first popularized by the late Glenn Fredly.
Mario’s choice was not without reason. Besides being known as a male singer with a strong vocal character, Mario also hails from Eastern Indonesia, the same region as Glenn Fredly. For Tohpati, this close background was one of the factors that enabled Mario to deliver the right soul for this song. “I love Mario’s vocal character,” said Tohpati. “Furthermore, Mario and Glenn are both from Eastern Indonesia, so I feel the soul of this song is maintained,” he continued.
According to Tohpati, Mario has succeeded in providing a new interpretation without losing the essence that makes this song so deeply ingrained in listeners. In fact, when he first heard the demo Mario sent, he was immediately impressed by the depth and personal touch.
Meanwhile, Mario admitted that he immediately accepted the offer to be involved in this project upon learning that the song he would be performing was “Jejak Langkah yang Kau Tinggal”. “I immediately agreed because this song was previously performed by Bung Glenn and is very close to my time,” said Mario.
Through this latest version, Mario strives to convey honest emotion regarding the themes of relationships, loss, and honesty of feeling that are the song’s main strengths. With a fresher arrangement and Mario G. Klau’s distinctive vocal approach, “Jejak Langkah yang Kau Tinggal” serves as a tribute to a work that has been a significant part of the history of Indonesian music.
