Google Asia Pacific and the Indonesian Game Association Enliven Global Game Jam Malang 2025

Bingkai Karya – Global Game Jam (GGJ) Malang 2025 not only attracted nearly 160 participants from various backgrounds and regions but also featured key figures in the national and international gaming industry. Collin Agata, Publisher Solutions Consultant at Google Asia Pacific, and Shafiq Husein, President of the Indonesian Game Association (AGI), attended the event to share their insights and experiences with participants.

Held from January 23 to 26, 2025, the event marked an important moment for the game development community in Malang. With the theme “Bubble,” 26 creative teams worked to develop games within 48 hours, supported by inspirational sessions from industry experts covering various aspects of game development, from production techniques to data-driven marketing strategies.

Google Asia Pacific: Expanding Global Perspectives for Game Creators

Collin Agata from Google Asia Pacific provided deep insights into leveraging Google’s technological solutions to increase revenue for game studios, including monetization strategies and global market analysis. He also encouraged participants to think big and utilize digital platforms to reach international audiences.

“I am very impressed by the enthusiasm and creativity of the participants in Malang. With such a strong ecosystem, I believe that game developers from this city have great potential to grow, as long as they are willing to Build Fast, Fail Fast, Grow Even Faster,” said Collin.

Indonesian Game Association: Supporting the Local Industry

Shafiq Husein, President of AGI, motivated participants by emphasizing the importance of collaboration in building a sustainable gaming industry in Indonesia. He also shared insights on national gaming market trends and how games can become a key pillar of the country’s creative economy.

“We must continue to encourage local developers not only to create games but also to ensure their games sell and generate revenue. Events like Global Game Jam are a concrete step in strengthening the ecosystem,” said Shafiq.

Strong Support for GGJ Malang 2025

In addition to the presence of industry leaders, the event received support from various sponsors such as Lenovo, Agate Academy, Indigo, and IDBS Studios. Local studios like Satriver Studio, Roukie Studio, Algorocks, and Let’s Play Game Studio Cooperative also contributed, showcasing the power of collaboration within the local game community.

A special message of support was also delivered via video call by Irene Umar, Deputy Minister of Creative Economy. “I believe that events like this not only foster creativity but also lay an essential foundation for the future of the creative economy,” she said.

Stepping into the Future of the Gaming Industry

Arif Bawono Surya, the event organizer from the Game Dev Malang community, hopes that the presence of key figures like Collin Agata and Shafiq Husein will inspire participants to continue growing.

“By bringing in these industry leaders, we aim to show that the gaming industry in Malang has great potential, and GGJ Malang can be a gateway for local developers to enter the global market,” said Arif.
