The government planned to raise the Borobudur ticket to IDR 750,000/person to limit the number of visitors so that the condition of the temple could be maintained properly. This plan becomes a controversy among people, yet there are many misunderstandings found among them.
Dony Oskaria, the President Director of PT Aviasi Pariwisata Indonesia, stated that the entrance ticket is still IDR 50,000. The price IDR 750,000 is for going up to the temple.
The price raising was for conservation to maintain the condition of the temple by determining the number of carrying capacity so that it did not damage the temple.
The Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, added that the visitors capacity was limited to 1,200 people per day.
Not only local visitors, the price raising also applied to foreign tourists. The foreigner needs to pay USD 100 per person or approximately IDR 1.45 million, but if they go to the yard only, the cost is USD 25 per person. The tourists are also obligated to use the local guide from local people near Borobudur.
