Grrrl Gang, a trio from Yogyakarta continues their global journey with their full-length album “Spunky!”. The album kicks off with their first single which was released on May 30th, and is taken from the same album title, ‘Spunky!’. The song itself describes Angee’s experience during a manic episode.
“Spunky!” was created after some major life changes for Angeeta Sentana (vocals, guitar), Akbar Rumandung (bass, vocals), and Edo Alventa (guitar, vocals), including a move from Yogyakarta, the city where they formed the band while still in college. The band said that this is their first release after they graduated and got jobs that made them move to Jakarta. However, by moving to Jakarta, they were able to work together with Lafa in “Spunky!” from start to finish.

Lafa Pratomo is the producer who helped them record the ten songs on their latest album. Lafa is an experienced producer that has worked with Danilla and Iwan Falls. Along with the help of Lafa Pratomo, Grrrl Gang’s melody has improved, especially Edo’s wailing guitars, Akbar’s thunderous bass, and additional drummer by Muhammad Faiz Abdurrahman. They maintain the band’s signature energy, catchy melodies, and Angee’s attitude-filled vocals that balance between persuasive and confrontational.
Grrrl Gang is a band currently active in the independent music scene with strong melodies, anthemic songs, and energetic live performances. The trio consisting of Angeeta Sentana on guitar and vocals, Akbar Rumandung on bass, and Edo Alventa on guitar have been active in music communities across Southeast Asia since forming in 2016.
The music video for Spunky! premiered on Grrrl Gang’s YouTube channel on the same day as the song’s release. with the release of the song. The video, directed by Bathroom Girls, is part of a serialized movie, with Spunky! being the second chapter.
