The Jakarta government launched a trial for issuing violation tickets to vehicles that fail the emission test on August 25 morning. The trial took place at six locations, including Jalan Perintis Kemerdekaan, Jalan Asia-Afrika, etc.
Out of 550 vehicles tested, 104 did not pass the emission test. The Head of the Jakarta Environmental Department, Asep Kuswanto, stated that the 104 vehicles comprised 38 cars and 66 motorcycles. At the moment, the drivers were only issued warning letters.
The policy conducted as an effort to address harmful air pollution in Jakarta is set to come into force on September 1. Regular raids on vehicles failing emission tests will occur weekly in different locations and areas.

Conducting the emission test ticket, the authority works with several departments, including a task force (Satgas) composed of members from local government and the Indonesian National Army, as well as the Police of the Republic of Indonesia.
Previously, the Jakarta Environmental Department banned untested motor vehicles from entering office areas on August 21. “Before we demand that the community change their behavior and burden them with various obligations, it would be best if we, the large family of the Jakarta Environmental Department, set an example for the community,” stated Asep.
