Portugal, Switzerland, and Belgium Secure Positions in the Next Match, South Korea Draws with Uruguay

The 2022 World Cup entered the 5th day on November 24, 2022. There were 4 matches held at 4 different stadiums in Qatar, namely Belgium vs Canada, Switzerland vs Republic of Cameroon, Uruguay vs South Korea, and Portugal vs Ghana.

Belgium succeeded to win against Canada with a score of 1-0 in the 1st match which was held at the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium. Belgium’s goal was scored by Mitchy Batshuayi that came late in the first half. Canada actually controlled the game more with their attacks. However, their attacks made Canada forget about its defense. Batshuay used Alderweireld’s pass perfectly to score a goal. Because of that, the Belgium vs Canada score changed to 1-0.

This victory brought Belgium to lead the Group F standings with 3 points followed by Croatia and Morocco in 2nd and 3rd places while Canada was in 4rd place. In the next match, Belgium will meet Morocco. Meanwhile, Canada challenged the 2018 World Cup runner-up, Croatia.

The 2nd match which was held at Al Janoub Stadium was exciting from the start. The Swiss team took control of the match early in the first half. Cameroon itself appeared to intimidate through their counterattacks and defense. After a fierce first half, the Swiss team finally managed to take advantage three minutes early in the second half. The first goal was obtained by Breel Embolo.

From the victory, the Swiss team stood in the 2nd position for Group G with 3 points followed by Cameroon in 3rd place and Serbia in 4th place which both got 0 points. Matchday 2 Group G will bring together Switzerland vs Brazil (the 1st place in Group F). Meanwhile, Cameroon and Serbia will face each other in a match that will determine their chances of qualifying.

In the 3rd match, Uruguay could only achieve a draw against South Korea in the opening match of Group H at the Education City Stadium. Uruguay and South Korea both tried to attack from the start of the match, but they had difficulty in producing meaningful attacks. The 1st round duel ended without a goal.

As soon as the 2nd round of the match began, South Korea took the initiative to attack Uruguay, while Uruguay continued to press South Korea’s defense. However, both teams still couldn’t score until the game ended. The 0-0 score is the final result of the Uruguay vs South Korea match.

Meanwhile, the match between Portugal vs Ghana at Stadium 974 closed the series of matches in Group H. Portugal scored goals through 3 different players. Cristiano Ronaldo first opened the scoring in the 65th minute with a penalty kick. The next 2 goals were scored by Joao Felix and Rafael Leao. Then, Ghana managed to reply with 2 goals. The 1st goal was contributed by Andre Ayew in the 73rd minute and the 2nd goal was scored by Osman Bukari in the 89th minute.

The last match was won by Portugal with a score of 3-2. Because of this victory, Portugal topped the 1st position in Group H with 3 points. Ghana is in 4th place with 0 points, behind South Korea in 2nd place and Uruguay in 3rd place which both scored 1 point.
