
Indonesia became Qatar’s guest of honor in Qatar International Food Festival (QIFF) 2023. This festival that is being held in Lusail Boulevard, Lusail, Qatar on 11 – 21 March will showcase various dishes from around the world. Indonesia being chosen as the guest of honor is done to mark the status of Indonesia and Qatar that are currently holding the 2023 Year of Culture.
At Qatar International Food Festival, Indonesia will be presenting Helianti Hilma, the Founder of Javara Indonesia that is a well known promoter of Indonesian cuisine. There is also culinary expert and food scientist, Ade Putri Paramadita. Both of them will collaborate together with Qatar’s cooks to serve Indonesian food with a Qatar touch. A few Indonesian restaurants will also be opening stands at that festival, Such as Tofu and Cake and Mama Rozie. Indonesia also got their own private booths from the event committee to dish out their specialty.
Right now in Qatar there is also another event called Indonesia-Qatar 2023 Year of Culture. Indonesia being welcomed as guests of honor is related to that. The RI-Qatar Cultural Year event will last for a year and be filled with various programs such as art exhibitions, cultural performances, artist residencies, cultural scholarships, culinary exhibitions, fashion and so on.

Indonesia’s ambassador said that in this dynamic world situation international cooperation is needed and that culture is a powerful tool to make that happen. Qatar’s sides seem to also agree on this statement. (https://mva.la) As the Chairperson of Qatar Museums Sheika Al Mayassa binti Hamad al Thani said that this is a strong foundation for the two countries to develop further cooperation and it’s a special year of culture because of Indonesia.
