Sea Games 2023: Indonesia Won 70 Gold Medals, Women Basketball Break Record First Gold

Sea Games 2023 Cambodia or the 32nd edition of the Southeast Asian Games, is a biennial sports multi-sport event which is currently being held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia starting from May 5th-17th 2023. After approximately 1 week of holding the 2023 Sea Games, Indonesia has shown good performance.

On May 14, 2023, Indonesia managed to collect 12 gold medals. Until now, Indonesia has won a total of 210 medals with 70 gold, 60 silver and 80 bronze medals. The gold medal was successfully obtained in various branches, starting from the women’s basketball national team, judo, tennis, traditional boat race, weightlifting, wrestling, fin swimming, and E-Sport.

This achievement exceeded President Joko Widodo’s target of 69 gold medals, which at the same time placing Indonesia in 3rd place, overtook Cambodia’s position. Until now, the 1st place is led by Vietnam with 107 gold medals, followed by Thailand with 91 gold medals. Meanwhile, the host, Cambodia, dropped to 4th place with 65 gold medals.

The Indonesian basketball national team won a gold medal at the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia. This achievement made them make history. While participating in the biennial event, Indonesia only won silver three times. This year, the Indonesian women’s basketball team won a gold medal by defeating Singapore at the Morodok Techo Indoor Sports Center with a score of 86-39.
