Bingkai Karya-Snail Mail (Lindsey Jordan) has just dropped a cover of The Smashing Pumpkins “Tonight, Tonight.” She recorded this version for the indie hit film I Saw The TV Glow, which came out through A24 in January and is now streaming on various platforms.
Not only does Snail Mail’s song feature on the soundtrack, but she also made her acting debut in Jane Schoenbrun’s film. According to Snail Mail, the opportunity arose by coincidence. “We had already been working on this cover for the ‘Valentine’ tour before I even landed the role. The idea sparked early on because of a moon man tattoo on my arm, which nods to the first sci-fi film, ‘A Trip to the Moon,’ and the Smashing Pumpkins’ ‘Tonight, Tonight’ video. When I read the script and noticed that the Pink Opaque antagonist drew from similar imagery, I mentioned to Jane that we were working on this cover in NYC. They came by to check it out, and the rest just fell into place.”
Snail Mail has also announced an East Coast summer tour, which will be her sole live tour of 2024. The dates begin on August 26 in Portsmouth and end in Philadelphia on September 8. The tour stops in NYC at Central Park SummerStage on August 27. The tour also includes shows with Waxahatchee and Greg Mendez.
Last fall, Snail Mail dropped the “Valentine (Demos) 2023” EP, showcasing four demo tracks from her acclaimed sophomore album, “Valentine.” Released in 2021, the LP earned rave reviews and was featured in year-end best-of lists from major outlets like The New York Times, Vogue, NME, Pitchfork, and The New Yorker. Snail Mail also made her late-night TV debut on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert and later appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
