Sri Lanka Hopes to Attract 2 Million Visitors by the End of 2023

Sri Lanka has set an ambitious aim of attracting 2 million international visitors by the end of this year. The country’s tourism industry has grown significantly, with a particular spike in arrivals from India, which currently ranks first. Sri Lanka received 46,432 Indian tourists in the first three months of 2023.

Sri Lanka Tourism organized a series of roadshows in key South Indian cities to showcase the country’s unique attractions and tourism services. These roadshows provided an opportunity for potential visitors to learn about Sri Lanka’s natural beauty and cultural history. Wellness and yoga retreats, pristine beaches, exciting retail experiences, excellent cuisine, thrilling adventure possibilities, and rich wildlife are among its many delights.

The tourist team, led by Minister of tourist Harin Fernando, featured representatives from over 30 Sri Lankan travel firms and hotels. The roadshows provided an opportunity to meet with high-profile corporate executives, investors, and tourist stakeholders. The Minister hoped to promote Sri Lanka as a safe and secure destination, attracting leisure, business, and MICE travel through media interviews with key Indian media outlets.

The increased influx of visitors has resulted in significant economic benefits for Sri Lanka’s tourism sector. Tourism earnings reached around US$530 million in the first quarter of 2023, up from US$482.3 million in the same time the previous year. This encouraging development has driven the country’s ambitions to produce US$3 billion in tourism revenue this year.

The Indian outbound market is critical to Sri Lanka’s prosperity, driving tourism growth and contributing to the country’s success. Sri Lanka has been actively interacting with the Indian travel sector to strengthen its standing as a preferred travel destination.

The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, along with hotels, resorts, destination management firms, and event management organizations, is focused on creating mutually advantageous ties with travel-trade partners in India.
