Bingkai Karya – Singer-songwriter Rasyiqa returns with “Jangan Kau Lepas”, a reimagined version of the beloved hit by Indonesian band Alexa. Originally released in 2008, the song became one of the defining anthems of Indonesia’s pop-rock era, soundtracking radio airwaves, teenage playlists, and karaoke nights across the country.
For Rasyiqa, however, the song carries a more personal meaning. She first discovered it through music television, later through an older cousin’s iPod, and eventually among playlists shared by her late brother. Long before she fully understood its lyrics, “Jangan Kau Lepas” had already become part of the soundtrack of her childhood.
“I’ve known this song for most of my life, but I don’t think I fully understood it until recently,” she shares. “For years, it was simply a song that kept appearing throughout my life. Then one day, I found myself relating to every line in a way I never had before.”
Produced by Pandu Priyanto and Dimas Poncodiwiryo of FILM., the new rendition stays faithful to the song’s original pop-rock spirit while embracing a brighter, sweeter, and more romantic atmosphere. Warm guitars, shimmering synths, and atmospheric textures give the track a youthful sense of wonder while preserving the heart of the original recording.
Among the standout additions is an original guitar solo written by Pandu, alongside subtle sonic flourishes inspired by the nostalgic pop textures Rasyiqa grew up loving. “We weren’t trying to completely reinvent the song,” Rasyiqa explains. “The original is already so beloved. What excited us was finding small ways to make it feel like our own while still honoring what people loved about it in the first place.”
Before recording the track, Rasyiqa also personally reached out to Alexa’s guitarist and original songwriter, Nur Satriatama for his permission and blessing for the cover. “I was honestly really nervous about texting Mas Satrio,” she admits. “Thankfully, he was incredibly warm and supportive of the idea from the start. Having his blessing meant a lot throughout the process.
The release of “Jangan Kau Lepas” also marks a beginning to a whole bigger project, a new EP before the end of the year. What began as a single cover gradually evolved into a collection of four reimagined Indonesian songs that have quietly accompanied Rasyiqa throughout different stages of her life.
Rather than recreating the songs exactly as they were, the EP will approach them as chapters of a larger emotional journey, tracing the progression of love from uncertainty and longing to reassurance and belonging.
Following her 2025 debut album this project reveals another side of Rasyiqa’s musical upbringing. While her debut leaned heavily into Disney Channel, MTV, and early-2000s Western pop-rock influences, this new EP turns its attention closer to home, revisiting the Indonesian songs that quietly shaped her childhood alongside them.
“People usually associate me with Miley Cyrus, Avril Lavigne, or Paramore,” she says. “But Indonesian pop was just as much a part of my childhood. I grew up with both worlds at the same time, and this project feels like a chance to celebrate that.”
With “Jangan Kau Lepas”, Rasyiqa opens the first chapter of ‘Terbang’, with three more songs set to arrive in the coming months before the full EP lands this November.
About Rasyiqa
Raised in South Jakarta, Rasyiqa grew up believing life should come with its own movie soundtrack. Inspired by Disney Channel, MTV, romantic comedies, and Indonesian pop radio, she spent her childhood imagining a double life somewhere between ordinary girl and pop star. Although adulthood initially led her toward a career behind the scenes in the music industry, songwriting eventually found its way back to her. At 25, she released her debut single “Reckless” in 2021, a song originally written as a birthday gift to herself and the younger version of her who never stopped dreaming. Its reimagined follow-up, “Reckless (But Make It 80s)” with Vintonic, was later recognized among the year’s best songs by DetikHot and Pop Hari Ini.
Since then, Rasyiqa has built a catalog of emotionally candid songs that often read like diary entries. Blending pop-rock and singer-songwriter influences, releases such as “Get Up! (Get Out!)”, “I’ve Had Enough”, and “2:15 (Steph’s Song)” captured the uncertainty and growingpains of her twenties, while songs like “Waiting on Fireworks”, “Two Shades of Blue”, and “Just Like That” revealed a softer outlook shaped by gratitude, optimism, and love. In 2025, she released her debut record ‘Reckless (the album)’, a fourteen-track collection chronicling the emotional detours of early adulthood.
Now entering a new chapter with an upcoming EP, Rasyiqa turns her attention toward the Indonesian songs that quietly shaped her childhood alongside the Western influences often associated with her music. Through a series of reimagined 2000s classics, she revisits familiar songs from a perspective she never had when she first heard them. Whether writing originals or reinterpreting the music that raised her, Rasyiqa remains fascinated by how songs can follow people through different stages of life, patiently waiting for them to finally understand what they were trying to say all along.
