The Final Transaction of the East Java-North Kalimantan Trade Mission Reaches IDR 279,332 Billion

The Trade and Investment Mission between the Provinces of East Java and North Kalimantan Province was held at the Tarakan Plaza Hotel, Tarakan City, North Kalimantan on Monday 20 March 2023. The Deputy Governor of East Java, Emil Elestianto Dardak, held this program representing the Governor of East Java, Khofifah Indar Parawansa.

The 3rd Trade and Investment Mission in 2023 was held by the East Java Provincial Government to increase cooperation between East Java business actors and partners in North Kalimantan in expanding the potential of industrial products, trade, creative economy, agribusiness, and other investment opportunities in an integrated manner.

Deputy Governor Emil said that the global economy is uncertain, and the value of Indonesia’s exports also fell on a month-to-month basis. Therefore, Indonesia must be solid in building a domestic economic network. One way to do this is through trade and investment missions.

Trade transaction data

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the total transaction value that occurred between East Java and North Kalimantan previously reached IDR 1.78 trillion. From the transaction value, sales from East Java to North Kalimantan were recorded at IDR 1.68 trillion, while sales from North Kalimantan to East Java amounted to IDR 96.69 billion. As a result, East Java has a surplus of IDR 1.59 trillion.

In addition, through trade and investment missions, a total of IDR 279.332 billion was recorded. The final transaction commitment was signed by business actors between East Java and North Kalimantan. Of the total transaction value, East Java’s sales to North Kalimantan reached IDR 206,297 billion, while East Java’s purchases from North Kalimantan reached IDR 73,034 billion.

Transactions come from various fields. There are livestock commodities such as chicken, there is also logistics, then cigarettes, then seaweed, and then palm shells.

Commodities from East Java to North Kalimantan are dominated by motorbikes, public transportation, cell phones, bottled drinking water, cigars, chemicals, rice, calorie drinks, sauces, seasonings, flour, soap, and perfumes. While the commodities obtained by East Java from North Kalimantan include crude palm oil, frozen shrimp, wood, and frozen fish.

Collaboration and National Strategic Projects

Based on a report from the Head of the East Java Industry and Trade Service, the trade and investment mission this time featured a total of 150 superior products from the two provinces, consisting of 50 business actors from East Java and 100 business actors from North Kalimantan. On the same day, there was also the signing of the MoU between OPD in East Java and North Kalimantan, Business Actors, and associations.

North Kalimantan Province is also building a National Strategic Project according to the President Joko Widodo, which is the construction of a Hydroelectric Power Plant (PLTA) on the Kayan River and the Indonesian Green Industrial Zone (KIHI).

Regional Secretary of North Kalimantan, Suriansyah, hoped that this activity can accelerate economic growth and regional contribution to the national economy. He also hoped that the ranks of OPD and BUMD would be able to take advantage of this momentum in order to develop economic relations between North Kalimantan and East Java.
