Bingkai Karya– The Smile released their new track Bodies Laughing from their forthcoming album Cutouts on Friday, October 4, via XL Recordings. Bodies Laughing followed Foreign Spies, Zero Sum, Don’t Get Me Started, and The Slip, which were published as limited edition 12-inch 2-track singles worldwide.
The band’s new Weirdcore-directed Instant Psalm video will debut on October 4 alongside the album. The Smile previewed new material at ‘Through The Glass’ gigs in NYC and London this week. Events begin October 1 with Weirdcore visuals and album track unlock codes before Friday’s release.
During their March UK tour, Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, and Tom Skinner premiered numerous Cutouts tracks. Cutouts was produced by Sam Petts-Davies and comprises 10 new songs. After January’s Wall of Eyes and 2022’s A Light For Attracting Attention, it’s the band’s third studio album. At the same time as Wall Of Eyes, Cutouts was recorded at Oxford and Abbey Road Studios. Stanley Donwood and Thom Yorke painted the album artwork while recording and the London Contemporary Orchestra played string arrangements.
The Smile has released their second studio album in less than a year. Wall Of Eyes reached #3 in the UK album charts in January and was named “Album Of The Year” by The Guardian, Evening Standard, The Independent, MOJO, Uncut, and NME.
Beyond The Smile, Thom Yorke released original music for Daniele Luchetti’s Confidenza and will shortly tour solo in New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, and Japan. Jonny Greenwood premiered ‘X Years of Reverb’ at Norwich’s 268-year-old Octagon Chapel and is writing music for Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Battle of Baktan Cross. On “mu”, Tom Skinner published Voices of Bishara Live and toured jazz solo.
