We Need to Know about Napping, It’s a Game Changer

Napping for 30 minutes or less can restore alertness, boost performance and prevent errors and accidents at work, according to the National Sleep Foundation. It used to be considered unethical to sleep while working, but not anymore. Research at the Salk Institute reveals power nappers’ brain activity, memory, and mood remain higher throughout the day than those who don’t nap, whose activity decreases as the hours pass.

A second Harvard School of Public Health study revealed that power nappers had a 34% lower risk of dying from heart disease. According to study, power naps are excellent stress reducers because they strengthen your immune system, lower your blood cortisol levels, and give you more energy.

Power napping is nearly a superpower. According to a 2009 study by Harvard Medical School, taking a 20–30 minute nap in the middle of the day is more beneficial than sleeping longer at night or even drinking more coffee to stay awake.

Napping improves brain function, increases capability to absorb and store information, sharpens alertness, reduces the frequency of errors and accidents, increases productivity, elevates mood, lowers blood pressure, and promotes healthy heart function.

Because of the advantages of attentiveness, reduced errors, and higher production, several companies have taken notice. More businesses are promoting the use of power naps while at work. Some companies, like Nike, Pizza Hut, and Thrive Global, Inc., even have entire rooms with chairs made only for napping.
