Bingkai Karya – Julia Jacklin announces her fourth studio album, ‘The Gem,’ set for worldwide release on 25 September 2026 via 4AD. Alongside the announcement, the Australian singer-songwriter shares the album’s first single, “Get Away From Me (I Think I’ll Love You Soon),” a bold and playful track inspired by eighties jangle rock and the Melbourne music scene that became an important part of her life.
The album marks Jacklin’s debut release with 4AD and follows her acclaimed solo records Don’t Let The Kids Win (2016), Crushing (2019), and PRE PLEASURE (2022). Unlike her previous projects, ‘The Gem’ was recorded entirely in Melbourne, with Jacklin producing the album alongside Robert Muinos. The ten-track record was created at Rat Shack, a studio located above the Melbourne pub that inspired its title.
The album’s story is closely tied to The Gem, the Collingwood bar Jacklin discovered after moving from Sydney to Melbourne in 2017. The venue became a place where she pushed herself beyond her comfort zone and eventually became the setting for the album’s creation. Recording took place in converted accommodation above the pub, surrounded by the sounds of neighboring businesses, the bar downstairs, and live bands. Jacklin and her band even performed two unannounced shows at the venue to test the songs before recording them.
At the heart of ‘The Gem’ is Jacklin’s exploration of independence and intimacy. “I want to love and be loved, but I also want to be free,” she says, describing the tension between connection and freedom as a central question of her life. The album ultimately became a process of trusting her instincts, embracing uncertainty, and finding her way back to herself.
The album took nearly a year of tinkering to complete, rather than the two weeks Jacklin initially expected. Its creation became an intimate collaboration with Robert Muinos, Jacob Diamond, Mimi Gilbert, and Jess Elwood, with the group later commemorating the experience through matching opal-inspired tattoos.
‘The Gem’ arrives worldwide on 25 September 2026 across digital, CD, cassette, and vinyl formats. Following its release, Julia Jacklin will embark on a North American, UK, and European tour beginning in October 2026 and continuing through 2027, bringing the new material to audiences across multiple cities.
