Indra Lesmana, Indonesian Jazz Maestro, Performs and Releases His New Album Sydney Reunion at the Manly Jazz Festival and Sydney Opera House

Bingkai Karya– Indra Lesmana, Indonesian composer, songwriter, and jazz virtuoso, returns to Australia’s longest-running jazz festival, Manly Jazz Festival, to premiere a new album named Sydney Reunion in a restricted premium event at the historic Sydney Opera House.The Sydney Reunion CD features Indra Lesmana on keyboards, Steve Hunter on electric bass, Dale Barlow on saxophone, and Andy Gander on drums.

About Indra Lesmana

Indra has known and collaborated with top musicians from Sydney, Australia, including Steve Hunter, Dale Barlow, and Andy Gander, since 1982, when she was studying at the Conservatorium of Music. Dale Barlow is part of the Children of Fantasy project, while Steve Hunter worked with the group Nebula on the album No Standing, published in the US in 1984.

The jazz fusion Sydney Reunion was also Indra’s 100th album. The album has ten new instrumental tracks, five of which were composed by Indra Lesmana. All songs were recorded live on two days at Rancom St Studio in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, in early May 2024. Indra conducted all of the mixing and mastering at his studio in Bali. The single “Fairlight” from the album was released in June 2024. 

Indra Lesmana, who also received the 2010 Australian Alumni Award, says, “I am very happy and grateful to be able to continue working and making music with my old friends in Sydney.”

“The last time I performed at Manly Jazz was in 1982. Performing again, and especially introducing our new record, at the Sydney Opera House in September will undoubtedly be an incredible historical moment. We sincerely hope that our musical partnership will strengthen and inspire future generations of artists, since this year marks the 75th anniversary of Australia and Indonesia’s diplomatic relations.”

Paulus Family Pty Ltd., owned by the Indonesian diaspora in Australia, totally supports Indra’s music endeavors. Ivan Paulus and his wife Shirley Lim are members of Indonesia’s diaspora in Australia. In addition to his successful business career in Australia, Ivan serves as an advisor to the Indonesia Business Council (IBC) Australia and was an executive producer on Indra Lesmana’s album recording project in Sydney.
