Bingkai Karya – Love can strike anywhere, anytime — and Rasyiqa’s brand-new single “Just Like That” is here to capture that magic. Making a mark in her career as her first-ever duet track, the song features singer-songwriter Dennis Ferdinand, who previously worked on Perunggu’s debut album ‘Memorandum’ as well as being their additional guitar player.
Looking back at Rasyiqa’s released repertoire, she presented a series of emotion-filled songs that curse the complexity of relationships such as her debut track “Reckless” or talk about the inevitable experience of adulting like in “Get Up, Get Out”, however with “Just Like That” she highlights the fact that falling in love can happen any time, anywhere, and with just anyone. This pop-rock number was written by Rasyiqa, Heston Prasetyo, and Dennis Ferdinand to serve as a reminder that love is not always as complicated as it seems. Of course, what follows is a whirlwind of exciting, challenging, and emotion-filled journeys. That’s romance, alright.
At first, the song was written exclusively by Rasyiqa and her long-time collaborator Heston Prasetyo, a member of the band Vintonic who has produced several names in the industry such as Coldiac, Sade Susanto, Nidji, and recently Noah’s collaboration track with Ramengvrl. However, considering the tracklist of the album and what the song could offer, it felt perfect to invite a man’s voice and a possible duet performance. Rasyiqa did not consider anyone else for the role and immediately offered that part to Dennis Ferdinand.
“I’ve always admired Dennis’s vocal tone for as long as I remember. He used to be in this pop punk band that I listened to a lot back in college, and as someone who loves listening to 2000s pop-punk songs, his voice carries that attitude which reminds me of the songs I grew up with,” said Rasyiqa about Dennis.
“Funnily enough, when I slid into his DM, he was so excited to jump in on the idea to collaborate, he even proposed a demo of his own that he recorded to me on his phone and sent it right before his plane took off, and that demo would also be a part of the upcoming album but not this one, I’m saving that one for as the last one. Thinking about it now, being able to collaborate with him feels a bit surreal, we’re practically good friends now. I blame two of us for being both earth signs (he’s a Capricorn, I’m a Virgo) .”
To complement the song’s release, Rasyiqa collaborated with Universitas Media Nusantara (UMN) film and animation program for an official music video. The students that went by the name of Soda Gembira Production first approached Rasyiqa to be the subject of their music video final exam, however after they started to brainstorm together, she would take the project to become her music video as well. One thing to note about this music video is the reminiscent feeling of Lizzie McGuire present in it that she dedicated for those Disney enthusiasts that follow this classic series.
“This collaboration offer came to me in the most perfect time. The students from UMN stated that they needed to mix animation with their project, and I’ve always wanted to make a cartoon version of myself. Similar to what you see on Lizzie McGuire, a simple 2D animation of yourself controlling other people’s life lol. And I feel like this song is perfect for it. Not to mention it has that little easter egg from my previous music video.”
The release of “Just Like That”’ also marks that Rasyiqa is officially approaching the final leg of her waiting game and everybody now can look forward to her debut album arriving this September.
