Danilla was in a positive state when she penned the song “Sarwa” in 2021, but it was the atmospheric surroundings of Yogyakarta, a city known for nurturing its sentimental aspects, that profoundly influenced him. During his one-month stay in Yogyakarta for a film shoot at the notable Losmen Bu Broto, where she also brought along a nylon guitar, Danilla found herself grappling with lingering emotional wounds from past incidents. The solitude of the city triggered a realization that he hadn’t fully recovered from the hurts inflicted by slanderous news shared within her close circle of friends some years prior. Consequently, the strumming of her fingers gave rise to a series of melodies expressing pain and a perpetual sense of depression, reflecting Danilla’s natural disposition when confronted with solitude.
“When I composed it, I envisioned the sorrows I had experienced. ‘Sarwa’ serves as an expression of unrestrained emotions. Much like its visual representation—an unadorned photo of me—it can be interpreted as raw and sincere. This song arrives unfiltered without any expectations.” Choosing the title ‘Sarwa’ signifies the necessity for this artistic shift. Danilla remarked, “When our hearts ache, it’s better to simply lay it all out on the table, whether it’s the good or the bad. Don’t harbor it for too long because once we can let go, something new and interesting is bound to come and welcome us.”

The upcoming work, scheduled for mid-2023, will involve recording with pure orchestral compositions, excluding the piano, resonating with Danilla’s distinctive baritone jazz style. This innovative experiment, a first for him, is entrusted to music arranger Aldi Nada Permana, recognized for his work on albums by Afgan, Ardhito Pramono, and Gamaliel. Lafa Pratomo, Danilla’s steadfast collaborator since the beginning of her career, remains the producer.
In presenting “Sarwa,” Danilla extends it as a beacon of hope for those still grappling with heartache. She views the song as a call to those in deep pain to release their burdens. Drawing from personal experience, he assures that acceptance leads to a return to normalcy. Danilla concludes, “This song is a wake-up call for those struggling with profound pain to let it all go. I’ve been in that position, and once we can embrace it, everything will eventually fall back into place.” “Sarwa” is set to be released simultaneously on all digital music platforms on November 10, 2023.
