Bingkai Karya – Weird Genius returns with their latest release, “Your Side”, a project that explores traditional musical instruments in Sumba and featuring Novia Bachmid as the main vocalist. This song features a combination of traditional Sumbanese and East Nusa Tenggara instruments, such as Jungga and Dungga Roro, as a way to revive traditional instruments often forgotten by young people.
“Your Side” also serves as a reminder of Weird Genius’ work, rooted in their debut release, “DPS”, in 2016. Furthermore, the song carries an unusual and magical touch through the appearance of traditional Sumbanese musician Umbu Haling in the intro.
““Your Side” stems from our two-week trip to Sumba as an exploration project for endangered traditional instruments. Weird Genius returns to its core through this song. Back in 2016, we went to Bali and created “DPS”, and 10 years later, we returned to Sumba and “Your Side” was born. We’ve poured all the grandeur and magical essence of Sumba into this song.”
Beyond its musical elements, “Your Side” also reflects Weird Genius’ commitment to preserving and reintroducing Indonesian cultural heritage through music. By combining modern electronic production with traditional sounds, the group creates a track that feels immersive, emotional, and culturally rich at the same time.
