The Weeknd Change His Stage Name to Abel Tesfaye

The Weeknd officially changed his stage name to his real name, Abel Makkonen Tesfaye. The official name change was seen on the Blinding Lights singer’s social media account on Monday, May 15, 2023, United States time.

The profile name listed has now changed to “Abel Tesfaye”, although the account name remains @theweeknd. Meanwhile, the musician’s official web domain name still uses The Weeknd. This is a follow-up to a plan called “Kill The Weeknd,” which Abel described in an interview with W Magazine that was published on May 8, 2023.

He confirmed that the plan will not interfere with his music career. Tesfaye will still create songs through another stage name that he has not yet prepared.
