Celebrating the 77th Birthday of the Indonesian Air Force

The Indonesian Air Force Anniversary is celebrated on April 9 every year. It marks the birth of the Republic of Indonesia Air Force on April 9, 1946. Quoting the Indonesian Air Force website, the history of the birth of the Indonesian Air Force began with the formation of the Badan Keamanan Rakyat (BKR) on August 23, 1945. This was to strengthen the Air Fleet, which at that time was lacking aircraft and other facilities.

In line with its development, BKR later changed to the Tentara Keamanan Rakyat (TKR), on October 5, 1945. Under the name TKR, the aviation department was under Air Commodore Soerjadi Soerjadarma. On January 23, 1946, TKR was again upgraded to become the Tentara Republik Indonesia (TRI). This is a continuation of the Air Force’s budding development. Then on April 9, 1946, the TRI flight service was abolished and replaced with the Indonesian Air Force.

Since then, April 9 has been celebrated as the birthday of this military unit. The anniversary of the birth of the Indonesian Air Force was inaugurated at the same time as the establishment of the Tentara Nasional Indonesia (TNI).

The highlight of the 2023 Indonesian Air Force’s 77th Anniversary celebration will be held on Sunday, April 9 2023. The celebration will be held at Taxi Echo Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, East Jakarta, with a Military Ceremony.
